Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 8, 2025
AI Dev Roundup ("AI Dev Roundup", "we", "our", or "us") is a weekly email newsletter published by Sidewave Digital Inc. This Policy explains - in plain English - what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the limited circumstances under which we share it. If anything here feels unclear, please email us and we'll clarify.
1. What We Collect—In Detail & Why We Collect It
We collect the smallest possible amount of data required to deliver the newsletter, understand readership trends, and keep the service secure. We do not collect or retain sensitive personal data.
- Email Address (Required) — Absolutely necessary to send you the newsletter.
- Job-Related Metadata (Optional) — Job title, seniority, & company size help us tailor content (ex: more advanced tutorials for senior devs) and generate aggregate statistics for sponsors (ex: "58% of readers work at companies under 100 employees").
- Engagement Data — Whether you open an email or click a link. Collected via a single-pixel image and redirect links; used to gauge which topics resonate and to troubleshoot deliverability issues.
- Approximate Location (Country/Continent) — Determined at the moment of interaction using the IP address supplied by your email or browser but never stored. We immediately convert the IP to a country or continent label, discard the IP, and store only aggregated counts (e.g. "2,753 readers — North America"). This lets us answer high-level questions like “Where are our readers?” without keeping any direct identifiers.
What We Explicitly Do NOT Collect: phone numbers, mailing addresses, precise (GPS-level) locations, payment information, or behavioural data from other websites.
2. How We Use Your Data—No Surprises
- Deliver the AI Dev Roundup emails to your inbox.
- Improve future editions by analysing aggregated open/click rates.
- Detect & block spam or bot signups (legitimate security interest).
- Produce anonymous, high-level readership insights (e.g. "35% of readers are in Europe") that we may share with sponsors.
Under no circumstances do we sell your personal data, rent it, or share it with advertisers for behavioural targeting.
3. Third-Party Services We Rely On
To run a modern newsletter we partner with a few specialised vendors. Each vendor only receives the data needed to perform its task and is contractually prohibited from using it for anything else.
- Email Service Provider (ESP) — SendGrid handles email storage & delivery.
- Analytics — Plausible Analytics for privacy-friendly, cookie-free website stats.
- Cloud Hosting — Render.com hosts the website and stores aggregated newsletter metrics.
All vendors are vetted for GDPR compliance (where applicable) and bound by Data Processing Agreements (DPAs). Please view their respective privacy policies for more information.
4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Our philosophy is “track less, respect more”.
- Email Open Tracking Pixel — a 1x1px image to signal an open event. If your email client blocks images, we still deliver the content—you just appear as “unopened”.
- Link Redirects — Links in the newsletter briefly route through our ESP to count clicks, then immediately forward you to the destination.
- No Third-Party Ad Cookies, fingerprinting scripts, or social media trackers.
- Website Analytics — Plausible, a cookie-free, GDPR-compliant tool that counts visits without personal identifiers.
5. Your Choices & Rights
- Unsubscribe — Every email footer contains a 1-click unsubscribe link.
- Data Access — Email us at hello [at] aidevroundup.comand we'll send you a copy of the (very small) personal data we hold.
- Data Deletion — Ask us to delete your record entirely; we'll wipe it from all systems within 30 days.
6. Data Storage & Security Measures
Data is stored on secured servers in the United States. The security of your data is important to us but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Data Retention Policy
We retain your email address & optional profile fields as well as aggregated analytics (which contain no personal identifiers) for historical trend analysis.
8. International Data Transfers
Some vendors operate in jurisdictions outside your home country. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent legal safeguards to ensure adequate data protection.
9. Children's Privacy
AI Dev Roundup is aimed at professionals aged 16+. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, please contact us and we will promptly delete their information.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this document when legal requirements or business needs change. The revision date at the top always reflects the latest version.
